Save the Guacamole

So, I'm probably not the first person to do this but I think it's a good idea (if I do say so myself).

Do you like Guacamole? Have you ever tried to save guac in the fridge?
Have you been slightly disgusted with the brown color it turns after it sits for a while?

Well...I LOVE Guacamole but I hate when it turns brown(ish)-even in a closed container. Avocados are expensive (where I live) and I just dont like wasting the delicious dip or the money I spent to prepare it.

So grab your plastic wrap and join me in saying, "No" to brown guacamole!

Once you put your guac in a container, spread plastic wrap over the top and push down just enough to touch the surface of the guacamole and rid the container of extra oxygen (which produces the brown you don't want).

Then place the lid on like normal-just make sure to keep the plastic wrap in place.

When you are ready to enjoy the green deliciousness again: just pull out of the fridge, open container, remove plastic and share (the last step is optional, of course). These pictures were actually taken after the guacamole had been stored for almost eight hours. I didn't have any discoloration what-so-ever.

Now, go enjoy your fresh guacamole for longer :)

And just so you know, I don't follow a strict recipe for my guac but I do included the same ingredients on a regular basis:

  • Avocados
  • Onion
  • Chili powder
  • Garlic-salt/powder or sometimes paste (for stronger flavor)
  • Sea Salt
  • Cream cheese-the cooking kind because it's softer, helps make the Avocados go farther and gives dip a creamier texture
  • Tomato-I don't normally add this, but a lot of people do

How often do you eat Guacamole?

  1. So simple! I just threw away some avacado yesterday because I didn't want to eat it brown!
