Some of you may have seen this picture on my Wordless Wednesday post yesterday. I realize it's a bit confusing if you don't know what your looking at-so I'll explain it :)
Alonso Sobrino. Most fabric stores in Puerto Rico have decor fabric or fancy dress fabric (like shown), but rarely carry regular old cotton/quilting fabric. Alonso Sobrino does have approximately 3 of those round displays (display examples in picture) worth of Robert Kaufman fabric, which is 3xs the amount of cotton/quilting fabric than any other store I've been in here (except Walmart). Off to the left of where the picture was taken is another room (1/2 the size) full of jewelry making supplies, findings, beads, charms, precious stones, and cording. It is a fun place to go, even with screaming children...too many pretty things to look at.
Anyway, the coolest part about the store is usually the manikins. The store has a specific lady come in, about every 4 weeks or so, and 're-dress' the manikins. The dresses she makes, although hardly ever modest, are super interesting, colorful, and creative. The dresses are also made without a sewing machine or much cutting of any fabric. This lady takes a couple of yards (usually in one cut) of fabric and drapes, pins, tucks and fits each manikin with a trendy piece. This month there were extra manikins donning wedding dresses, you can see the picture on yesterday's post here.
